Textile Technique Toolbox: Hooking with Jo Franco
March 17 @ 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm| $35
You are invited to learn new techniques and be inspired for your WAFTA Challenge piece, Wearable Art, or just as a taster for your textile techniques toolbox!
Jo will be giving a presentation and hands on demonstration of some of the many rug hooking techniques out there. There will be lots of books and examples using rug hooking in surprising ways!
There is no need to bring anything – all materials and tools will be supplied for you to use during the demonstration. Learn techniques that can be used in your art to add dimension, texture and colour. It’s not just about the rugs!
These workshops are designed for the absolute beginner as well as the more advanced wanting to have a play. The aim is to go home with lots of small samples, the skills to make your own print mat, screens and stamps and the enthusiasm to explore further!
Jo Franco is chair of Rughooking Australia as well as being the WAFTA Librarian. She edits the RA website and you can read more on the blog at
The simple techniques used in the past to create floor coverings, are now used artistically to create wall hangings, home decor items and wearables; to make social commentary; express inner feelings; bring groups together to work on community projects; promote well-being or just provide an outlet for a person to relax while making something they feel is attractive and useful.
